The Korea Exchange is implementing new trading halt regulations for after-market hours to address disclosure gaps and enhance investor protection.
What Happened
Regulatory Update: Ahead of the after-market launch on the 14th, the Korea Exchange (KRX) has proposed amendments to its disclosure regulations. These changes establish a legal basis for halting trading on specific stocks even after regular market hours if significant material events occur.
Scope of Measures: The KRX will have the authority to suspend trading after 6:00 PM if major issues such as bankruptcy, embezzlement, breach of trust, or accounting violations are reported. This ensures that investors are protected from trading in stocks affected by sudden, critical news.
Objective: The primary goal is to minimize disclosure blind spots during evening trading hours. By extending the scope of trading halts beyond the regular session, the exchange aims to prevent unexpected losses for investors who trade during the after-market period.
System Integration: These measures will also apply to Nextrade, an Alternative Trading System (ATS) that operates in conjunction with the KRX. The exchange plans to strengthen its night-time monitoring to maintain market transparency and integrity.
