Taiwan stocks surged as foreign investors turned net buyers, showing a strong preference for active ETFs while offloading shares in shipping and tech firms.
What Happened
Market Rebound: The Taiwan stock market saw a significant rally today, with the index climbing 663.16 points to close at 45,832.62. Trading volume reached NT$804.25 billion, supported by a combined net purchase of NT$59.39 billion from the three major institutional investor groups.
ETF Inflows: Foreign investors were net buyers of over NT$36.5 billion, with a notable shift toward active ETFs. The 'Active Uni-President Upgrade 50' (00403A) led the buying list with over 74,000 shares purchased, followed by strong interest in other收益-focused ETFs.
Selling Pressure: Conversely, shipping giant Yang Ming faced significant selling pressure, with foreign investors offloading over 30,000 shares. Other major companies, including UMC, Taiwan Cement, and Innolux, also saw net outflows as foreign capital rotated out of specific individual stocks.
Institutional Sentiment: With both foreign and domestic institutional investors turning net buyers, market sentiment has improved significantly. Analysts are monitoring whether this trend of favoring active ETFs over traditional individual stocks will persist in the coming sessions.
