Optical communications firm LuxNet (3081) announced a major expansion, including a NT$2.27 billion equipment investment and a 4-year CW laser supply contract.

What Happened

Capital Expenditure: LuxNet's board has approved an investment of up to NT$2.27 billion to acquire production equipment aimed at meeting growing AI product demand. The investment will be executed in phases using a combination of internal operating funds and external financing to support capacity expansion.

Major Supply Contract: The company has secured a four-year long-term supply agreement with a major U.S. client for CW lasers used in data centers. This partnership reinforces LuxNet’s role in supporting the client's growth in AI, high-performance computing, and data center applications.

Supply Chain Security: To ensure long-term operational stability, LuxNet has signed multi-year procurement contracts with U.S. and Japanese suppliers for Indium Phosphide (InP) substrates. These agreements, covering the 2026-2030 period, are critical for securing the raw materials needed for upcoming production increases.

Growth Outlook: During its recent investor conference, LuxNet highlighted that CW lasers are its core silicon photonics product, with capacity expected to reach 2.5 times current levels by 2027. Industry analysts view these strategic moves as a clear sign of the company's confidence in the future of the optical communications sector.
