LG HelloVision reported a 71.7% drop in Q2 operating profit, citing a downturn in the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors.
What Happened
Weak Quarterly Results: LG HelloVision posted Q2 revenue of 243.3 billion KRW and an operating profit of 3 billion KRW. These figures represent significant declines of 31.3% and 71.7%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Sector Performance: The broadcasting division suffered from lower VOD revenue, while the MVNO segment faced intense price competition. Additionally, the rental and regional business units were impacted by portfolio restructuring and a highly competitive home appliance market.
Strategic Recovery: The company plans to bolster its subscriber base by introducing genre-specific VOD subscription services and bundled MVNO plans. Management is focused on strengthening competitiveness through these targeted service offerings.
Management Outlook: CFO Kim Young-jun emphasized that the company will continue to prioritize operational efficiency throughout the second half of the year to lay the groundwork for a recovery in profitability.
