Taiwanese brokerages reported a 150% monthly profit increase in August, rebounding from July's market volatility thanks to strong proprietary and underwriting gains.

Brokerage Profit Rebound: Taiwan's brokerage industry saw a significant profit recovery in August, with total net profits reaching NT$27.42 billion, a 150% increase from July. This turnaround highlights the sector's resilience following the market volatility experienced in the previous month.
Diversified Revenue Streams: While brokerage commission income declined due to lower trading volumes, the industry's proprietary trading and underwriting businesses performed exceptionally well. Proprietary trading swung from a loss in July to a profit of NT$12.63 billion, effectively offsetting the dip in commission-based revenue.
Strong Year-to-Date Performance: For the first eight months of the year, total net profits for all brokerages reached NT$182.47 billion, representing a 195% increase compared to the same period last year. This robust growth is largely attributed to higher average daily trading volumes throughout the year.
Market Drivers: The Taiwan Stock Exchange noted that the surge in trading volume has been the primary catalyst for the industry's performance this year. With significant gains in both brokerage and proprietary trading, the sector remains on track for a record-breaking financial year.
