Morgan Stanley issued a report on AMD's latest earnings, highlighting a divergence in the supply chain between robust server CPU demand and a weakening PC market.
What Happened
Market Analysis: Morgan Stanley released a report analyzing the impact of AMD's recent earnings on the Taiwan supply chain, noting a significant divergence in market performance. While server CPU growth remains robust, the consumer PC market faces ongoing recessionary pressures.
PC Market Outlook: AMD projects a double-digit decline in global PC shipments by 2027, a view shared by Morgan Stanley, which forecasts a 14% year-over-year drop for this year. Consequently, the firm maintains a cautious outlook on OEMs and ODMs heavily exposed to the low-end consumer segment, such as Acer and Compal.
Server Growth Drivers: AMD anticipates its CPU total addressable market will reach $220 billion by 2030, reflecting a 50% compound annual growth rate. With the Venice CPU now shipping, cloud service providers are expected to begin integration in the fourth quarter, providing a tailwind for the server supply chain.
Investment Implications: Morgan Stanley maintains an 'Overweight' rating on eight stocks, including Lotes, Wiwynn, Unimicron, and Nanya PCB, citing strong server growth potential. Conversely, four stocks, including Acer, received 'Underweight' ratings due to the challenging outlook for the PC sector.
