Driven by rising demand for gold bumps in AI data center optical transceivers, analysts have upgraded Chipbond's profit outlook, citing long-term growth in silicon photonics.
What Happened
Operating Performance: Chipbond delivered strong Q3 results with a gross margin of 31.1% and an EPS of NT$2.4, exceeding market expectations. While Q4 demand for consumer electronics remains soft, analysts believe that early stocking driven by memory prices and market share gains from exiting competitors will provide a solid buffer for profitability.
Technical Momentum: The transition of AI data centers from 800G to 1.6T optical transceivers is driving increased demand for gold bump technology, creating significant growth opportunities for Chipbond's silicon photonics business. Analysts project that revenue from silicon photonics will account for 25% and 35% of the company's total revenue by 2027 and 2028, respectively.
Technological Expansion: Beyond traditional gold bump applications, Chipbond is actively developing PD-TIA stacking and thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) technologies. These emerging solutions are expected to expand the company's addressable market and serve as key revenue drivers as advanced optical communication solutions become more prevalent.
Market Outlook: Analysts remain optimistic about Chipbond's 2027 outlook and have raised their profit forecasts accordingly. Despite short-term headwinds in consumer electronics, the company is well-positioned to expand its influence in the high-speed optical communications market through market share gains and product mix optimization.
