Foreign investors net sold NT$89.27 billion in Taiwan stocks today, with AUO being the most heavily sold individual stock amid a broader market decline.
What Happened
Market Downturn: The Taiwan stock market experienced a significant decline today, falling 755.64 points to close at 46,184.85. Total net selling by institutional investors reached NT$112.37 billion, with foreign and mainland capital accounting for NT$89.27 billion of the outflow.
Foreign Selling Trends: Foreign investors heavily reduced their positions in ETFs, which occupied six of the top ten spots on the net selling list. Among individual stocks, AUO faced the most significant pressure, with foreign investors offloading over 100,000 shares, followed by other tech names like PSMC and Winbond.
Buying Activity: In contrast, foreign buying was concentrated in the financial sector, which accounted for eight of the top ten stocks purchased. Yang Ming Marine Transport led the buying list with 22,998 shares, followed by various financial institutions including Taichung Bank and KGI Financial.
Market Outlook: The massive sell-off by foreign investors highlights growing caution regarding the macroeconomic environment. Investors are advised to monitor the rotation between heavyweight tech stocks and defensive financial assets as the market navigates this period of high volatility.
