Strong seasonal demand for footwear materials and supply-side constraints are driving a positive outlook for EVA producers Formosa Plastics, USI, and Asia Polymer.
What Happened
Market Demand Recovery: High international oil prices and post-holiday inventory replenishment in China have significantly boosted demand for EVA. Clients are accelerating purchases to hedge against rising costs as oil prices hover around $100 per barrel due to geopolitical tensions.
Price Performance: EVA prices have climbed approximately 20% since late July. Despite fluctuations in upstream raw materials like ethylene and crude oil, the price spread for EVA products remains robust, indicating strong market support.
Seasonal Tailwinds: The fourth quarter marks the peak season for footwear material processing, driving increased demand for EVA foaming agents. Major producers expect this seasonal uptick to provide a solid foundation for their operational performance through the end of the year.
Supply Constraints: Geopolitical issues and low water levels in the Panama Canal have reduced LDPE imports to Asia, leading several competitors to shift production capacity toward LDPE. This reduction in EVA supply, totaling over 750,000 tons, is expected to further support price levels.
