Taiwan Stock Market Boom Drives August Securities Tax Revenue Up 94%

Finance · Financial Conglomerates · cnyes · 2026-09-11

Surging trading volumes in the Taiwan stock market have propelled August securities transaction tax revenue to NT$54 billion, marking a 94.5% year-on-year increase.

What Happened

Tax Revenue Growth: Taiwan's Ministry of Finance reported that August tax revenue reached NT$198.2 billion, a 28.9% increase year-on-year. Securities transaction tax was the primary driver, surging 94.5% to NT$54 billion, marking the 13th consecutive month of growth.

Year-to-Date Performance: Total tax revenue for the first eight months of the year reached NT$3.07 trillion, up 25.2% from the previous year. Securities transaction tax alone hit NT$452.7 billion, a 1.7-fold increase compared to the same period last year, reaching 273% of the projected budget.

Market Activity: The sharp rise in tax revenue is attributed to robust stock market activity, with the average daily turnover for listed stocks reaching NT$1.09 trillion in August, a 97.9% increase. The year-to-date daily average turnover has also surged by 1.7 times compared to last year.

Broad Economic Indicators: Other major tax categories, including corporate income tax, personal income tax, and business tax, also showed growth, reflecting stable corporate earnings and domestic demand. Conversely, commodity and land value increment taxes saw declines due to policy-driven tax cuts and lower transaction volumes.
