The Federation of Industries supports a minimum wage increase to over NT$30,000 but warns the government against over-prioritizing semiconductors over traditional industries.
What Happened
Minimum Wage Hike: Federation of Industries Chairman Pan Chun-jung expressed support for the government's plan to raise the monthly minimum wage above NT$30,000. He believes that profitable companies should share their success with employees, fostering a win-win scenario for businesses, workers, and society.
Industrial Imbalance: Pan cautioned that Taiwan’s economic focus has become too heavily skewed toward AI and semiconductors. He urged the government to allocate more resources to traditional industries, which are currently struggling with labor shortages and lower wage growth, to ensure balanced economic development.
Energy Policy Concerns: To address corporate anxiety over power stability, the federation proposed a more diversified energy policy, including the potential restart of the No. 2 and No. 3 nuclear power plants. They also suggested amending energy laws to allow large power consumers to build their own power plants.
Policy Influence: The release of the "2026 Federation of Industries White Paper" highlights critical issues such as labor shortages and industrial transformation. As a key dialogue platform, the white paper has historically seen a high adoption rate, with 75% of last year's recommendations implemented by the government.
