Consequently, Volkswagen plans to review alternative uses for these facilities and discontinue roughly half of its current vehicle models by 2035.
Underlying Challenges: The move comes as the automaker faces intensifying competition from Chinese rivals, US trade tariffs, and sluggish sales in Europe. In the first half of the year, Volkswagen reported an 8.4% decline in vehicle sales and an 11.6% drop in operating profit.
