Touch module manufacturer TPK-KY is entering the advanced packaging market with a new TGV production line in Taiwan and a strategic expansion in Thailand.

What Happened

Advanced Packaging Strategy: TPK-KY is pivoting toward the semiconductor sector, with its new Through-Glass Via (TGV) advanced packaging pilot line in Zhongli set to begin operations in early September. The company is collaborating with major semiconductor assembly and testing firms to provide glass-based substrates that address thermal management and warping issues in high-performance AI chips.

Global Production Expansion: To mitigate geopolitical risks and meet customer demands for supply chain resilience, TPK is advancing its new production facility in Thailand. The construction phase is complete, with equipment installation currently underway, aiming for trial runs by year-end and full-scale production by early 2027.

Corporate Restructuring: Beyond its packaging initiatives, TPK has solidified its position in the semiconductor supply chain by acquiring a 26% stake in driver IC manufacturer Ilitek, which has been consolidated into its financial reports since this year. This move is part of a broader effort to diversify the company's revenue streams and enhance its technological footprint.

Market Outlook: As demand for high-performance AI and ASIC chips continues to surge, the industry is increasingly seeking advanced materials to replace traditional organic substrates. TPK's strategic pivot into TGV technology positions the company to capture significant value within the evolving semiconductor ecosystem.
