Taiwan Ministry of Health Launches New Healthcare Policies: Expanded Drug Coverage and Increased Fertility Subsidies

Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare implements new healthcare policies starting September 1st, featuring expanded cholesterol drug coverage and increased IVF subsidies.
What Happened
Expanded Healthcare Coverage: The National Health Insurance Administration has expanded coverage for cholesterol-lowering medications, benefiting over one million patients over the next five years. Additionally, new treatments for rare diseases, including Fabhalta and Livmarli, have been added to the reimbursement list to support patients with specific rare conditions.
Enhanced Fertility Support: The Health Promotion Administration has increased subsidies for in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments, raising the maximum benefit for the second and third cycles to NT$150,000 for women under 40. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on infertile couples, with approximately 5,000 cases expected to benefit annually.
Medical Resource Allocation: The government is injecting NT$5.3 billion to adjust payment standards for pediatrics, obstetrics, and nursing care, while adding 20 new medical procedures to the coverage list. These measures are designed to address medical staff shortages and strengthen the capacity for critical and emergency care across the country.
Pediatric Dental Care: The Department of Oral Health has extended the age limit for free pediatric fluoride varnish applications until August 31st of the year a child enters elementary school. This policy adjustment is expected to benefit nearly 130,000 additional children annually, reaching a total of 1.17 million service encounters.
