Lotus Pharmaceutical has entered a strategic partnership with Alvotech to commercialize two biosimilar candidates in the U.S. and key Asian markets.
What Happened
Strategic Partnership: Lotus Pharmaceutical (1795-TW) has announced a strategic licensing and commercialization agreement with Alvotech (ALVO-US) to advance two biosimilar candidates, AVT34 and AVT87. This collaboration leverages Alvotech's manufacturing and development expertise alongside Lotus's established commercial footprint in the U.S. and Asia.
Market Opportunity: The partnership focuses on high-value biologics, including Imfinzi for cancer treatment and Hemlibra for hemophilia A, which generated significant global sales in 2025. By incorporating these candidates, Lotus aims to strengthen its competitive position in the oncology and rare disease therapeutic segments.
Operational Roles: In the U.S. market, Lotus will lead commercialization efforts while Alvotech retains non-exclusive rights and remains the sole supplier for the products. For the Asian market, Lotus has secured exclusive commercialization rights across eight territories, including Taiwan, South Korea, and several Southeast Asian nations, taking responsibility for local regulatory filings.
Future Outlook: Lotus CEO Petar Vazharov emphasized that the alliance combines Alvotech’s technical capabilities with Lotus’s market-access strength. The partnership is expected to accelerate the global rollout of these biosimilars, providing a new long-term growth engine for the company.
