The Taiwan stock market extended its losing streak to six days, shedding over 5,400 points as heavy foreign selling pressured major tech and AI-related stocks.

What Happened

Institutional Selling Pressure: Foreign investors have offloaded a cumulative NT$614.47 billion over the past six trading sessions, with a daily net sell of NT$123.46 billion recorded on the 5th. This massive capital outflow has become the primary driver behind the recent weakness in the Taiwan equity market.

Market Performance: The benchmark index fell by 1,374.19 points to close at 41,574.72, marking a six-day decline totaling 5,460.96 points. Market breadth was extremely weak, with 1,667 stocks declining across the exchange, reflecting widespread investor pessimism.

Tech and AI Sector Slump: Major heavyweight stocks, including TSMC, MediaTek, and ASE Technology, all closed in the red, significantly dragging down the index. High-priced stocks and the AI supply chain faced intense selling pressure, with numerous high-value stocks hitting their daily limit-down levels.

Defensive Sector Resilience: While the tech sector struggled, defensive and traditional industries provided some support to the market. Stocks in the textile, aviation, and financial sectors, such as Eclat Textile, China Airlines, and CTBC Financial, showed relative resilience and bucked the broader downward trend.
