Orsted has completed its 920MW Greater Changhua offshore wind project, as Taiwan unveils a strategic plan to add up to 18GW of capacity by 2039.

What Happened

Project Completion: Orsted has finalized its Greater Changhua Southwest Phase 2 and Northwest offshore wind farms, featuring 66 large-scale turbines with a total capacity of 920MW. Combined with existing projects, the total capacity reaches 1.82GW, enough to power 2 million households.

National Strategy: Premier Cho Jung-tai emphasized that offshore wind is now a national strategic project essential for supporting the AI-driven economy. The government remains committed to its second energy transition to ensure a stable green power supply for local industries.

Future Roadmap: The Ministry of Economic Affairs has outlined a long-term plan for 2026-2039, targeting an additional 15-18GW of capacity, including floating offshore wind. The government plans to leverage four pillars, such as green finance and regulatory optimization, to attract international investment.

Local Commitment: Since entering the Taiwan market in 2016, Orsted has become the second-largest foreign investor in the country. The company aims to continue introducing advanced technology and developing new sites over the next decade to foster a resilient green energy supply chain.
