Taiwan stocks faced heavy selling pressure on the 20th as foreign investors withdrew nearly NT$800 billion, dragging the index down by 529 points to 46,292.93.
What Happened
Institutional Selling: The three major institutional investors collectively offloaded NT$968.04 billion in Taiwan stocks, with foreign investors accounting for nearly NT$800 billion of the selling. While domestic investment trusts remained net buyers, the massive outflow from foreign entities and proprietary traders created significant downward pressure on the market.
Market Performance: The TAIEX index fell by 529.15 points to close at 46,292.93, a decline of 1.13%, with intraday volatility exceeding 800 points. Trading volume contracted to NT$758.7 billion, signaling caution as the index struggles to maintain support at the quarterly moving average.
Weighty Stocks: Most major heavyweight stocks retreated, with TSMC falling to NT$2,405 and MediaTek, Delta Electronics, and ASE Technology also closing in the red. Foxconn stood out as a rare bright spot, bucking the trend with a 0.84% gain to close at NT$241.5.
High-Priced Stocks: Performance among high-priced stocks was mixed, as Chuan Hsin regained the NT$10,000 mark while Largan Precision slipped below NT$6,000. Several other stocks, including WinWay, fell below the NT$5,000 threshold, reflecting the broader market's struggle to find stability.
