The Korea Exchange will introduce an after-market trading session from 4 PM to 8 PM, allowing real-time transactions after the regular market closes.
What Happened
After-Market Launch: The Korea Exchange (KRX) will launch an after-market trading session on October 14, enabling real-time trading after the regular market closes. This replaces the existing single-price after-hours session and will operate from 4 PM to 8 PM.
Trading Scope and Rules: Most stocks on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ will be eligible for trading, though ETFs and ETNs are excluded. The daily price limit remains at ±30%, and volatility interruption (VI) mechanisms will be applied just as they are during regular hours.
Disclosure and Settlement: Disclosure submission hours will remain unchanged, closing at 6 PM. Settlement for trades executed in the after-market will follow the standard T+2 cycle, consistent with regular market transactions.
Strategic Impact: The KRX expects this extension to improve investor accessibility and enhance the global competitiveness of the Korean stock market. Investors will now be able to react immediately to news and information released after the regular market close.
