The Taiwan Futures Exchange has raised margin requirements for ITEQ and Jinji futures following their designation as restricted securities by regulators.
What Happened
Regulatory Action: The Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) has implemented increased margin requirements for ITEQ (KBF) and Jinji (PQF) futures. This decision follows the classification of the underlying stocks as restricted securities by the Taiwan Stock Exchange and Taipei Exchange.
Margin Adjustments: Effective after the close of the regular trading session on October 12, the margin for ITEQ futures was raised to 1.5 times the standard rate, while Jinji futures were increased to 2 times. These measures are intended to mitigate potential market volatility risks.
Reversion Schedule: The elevated margin requirements are temporary and aligned with the regulatory disposal periods. Normal margin levels are scheduled to resume after the close of trading on October 19 for ITEQ futures and October 15 for Jinji futures.
Contingency Rules: TAIFEX noted that if the market experiences closures, trading halts, or full-day suspensions during the adjustment period, the date for reverting to standard margins will be postponed accordingly.
