Taiwan's stock market ended the week lower as capital rotated out of tech and into shipping stocks, with Wan Hai and Yang Ming leading the rally.

What Happened

Market Performance: The Taiwan Weighted Index fell 1.2% last week, shedding 586 points and snapping a winning streak. Although the index rebounded by 290 points to close at 45,224 on Friday, trading volume remained thin at 754.9 billion TWD.

Institutional Activity: Institutional investors were net buyers on Friday, with a combined inflow of 33.32 billion TWD. Foreign investors bought 28.3 billion TWD in spot markets while increasing their net short positions in futures to 82,594 contracts.

Shipping Surge: Capital rotation was evident as investors pivoted from volatile tech stocks toward the shipping sector. Wan Hai hit the daily limit, while Yang Ming surged 6.1% on heavy volume, signaling strong interest from both retail and institutional players.

Future Outlook: Analysts at SinoPac Futures noted that the shipping sector's defensive attributes and freight rate themes are attracting risk-averse capital. Market participants are now watching to see if this momentum can be sustained and if traditional industries can continue to lead the market rotation.
