The Korea Securities Depository has signed its first contract for a new service allowing foreign investors to manage treasury bond custody and financing in one place.
What Happened
Service Launch: The Korea Securities Depository (KSD) has officially launched its 'KSD One-Stop Financing Service' by signing its first contract with a foreign investor. This service enables foreign investors to conduct securities financing, such as repo and stock lending, directly through their integrated treasury bond accounts.
Improving Accessibility: Previously, foreign investors using only integrated treasury bond accounts faced significant hurdles, often requiring separate accounts for financing transactions. By eliminating the need for a separate local custodian, the new service streamlines the process for international participants in the Korean bond market.
Strategic Milestone: This agreement marks the first instance of the KSD acting as a CSD agent to facilitate domestic collateral transactions for foreign investors. It represents a significant step in modernizing the infrastructure for international capital flowing into Korean sovereign debt.
Future Outlook: KSD President Lee Yoon-soo stated that the service is expected to enhance market accessibility and convenience for foreign investors. The organization plans to expand the service to further stimulate activity and liquidity within the domestic treasury bond market.
