The Taiwan Index Plus Corporation has announced its quarterly index adjustments, with PharmaEssentia entering the Taiwan 50 index while Alchip is removed, effective September 21.
What Happened
Index Rebalancing Announcement: The Taiwan Index Plus Corporation has released the results of its quarterly review for the FTSE Russell index series, including the Taiwan 50, Mid-Cap 100, and Information Technology indices. These adjustments are designed to reflect current market capitalizations and will take effect at the start of trading on September 21.
Taiwan 50 Component Changes: ETFs tracking the Taiwan 50 index, such as Yuanta Taiwan 50 and Fubon Taiwan 50, will see PharmaEssentia added to their holdings, while Alchip-KY will be removed. This move aligns with market expectations regarding shifts in market capitalization and highlights the growing importance of the biotechnology sector in major indices.
Mid-Cap and Tech Index Shifts: The Taiwan Mid-Cap 100 index will see four additions, including Alchip-KY, Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology, Lianyou Metal, and Peel Biotech, while Taiwan Elite, Nuvoton, PharmaEssentia, and Tatung will be removed. Additionally, the Fubon Taiwan Technology index will add Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology and remove Nuvoton.
Effective Date and Contingency: The changes are scheduled to become effective after the close of trading on September 18. Should any existing component be removed before the next scheduled review, the vacancy will be filled by candidates from the reserve list, which is effective immediately.
