Panel manufacturer AUO is selling its Singapore plant to Western Digital for approximately NT$8.75 billion to optimize its asset structure.
What Happened
Asset Divestiture: AUO (2409) announced the sale of its subsidiary AFPD's Singapore facility and related infrastructure to Western Digital for SGD 350 million (approximately NT$8.75 billion). The deal includes 177,000 square meters of factory space and associated equipment.
Strategic Shift: The company stated that the divestiture is part of its ongoing transition toward an asset-light business model. By liquidating non-core assets, AUO aims to strengthen its financial position and focus on high-value applications.
Transaction Terms: The agreement includes a 10-day option period and is subject to regulatory approvals from local authorities, including Jurong Town Corporation. The final gain from the disposal will be recognized once all closing conditions are met.
Operational Focus: AUO Chairman Paul Peng has emphasized the company's commitment to investing in new technologies, such as its 'AI Four Arrows' strategy. This move is consistent with the company's broader effort to phase out older, less competitive production lines in favor of more advanced operations.
