Daishin Securities has increased its price target for HMM, citing prolonged geopolitical tensions that continue to support elevated maritime freight rates.
What Happened
Price Target Adjustment: Daishin Securities has raised its six-month price target for HMM to 29,000 KRW, citing the long-term impact of geopolitical bottlenecks on maritime freight rates. This adjustment reflects a potential upside of approximately 28% from the previous closing price.
Sustained Freight Benefits: Analyst Lee Ji-ni suggests that container shipping companies will continue to benefit from persistent supply chain disruptions and strong year-end shopping demand in the U.S. These factors are expected to keep freight rates elevated throughout the remainder of the year.
Q2 Performance Review: HMM reported an operating profit of 354.1 billion KRW for the second quarter, which fell slightly short of market consensus. The shortfall was primarily driven by increased fuel costs due to rising oil prices and higher cargo handling expenses associated with increased shipping volumes.
Q3 Outlook: The outlook for the third quarter remains positive, with expectations for improved profitability as freight rate increases are fully realized. Strong demand for consumer goods in the U.S. market, driven by the back-to-school and year-end shopping seasons, is expected to bolster performance.
