Taiwan's stock market fell 461 points to close at 44,762, dropping below the quarterly moving average on the lowest trading volume seen in over four months.
What Happened
Market Performance: The Taiwan stock market experienced a sharp decline yesterday, falling 461 points to close at 44,762. The index slipped below both the 45,000-point mark and the quarterly moving average, while trading volume dropped to 656.2 billion TWD, the lowest level in four and a half months.
Expert Analysis: Market analysts attribute the weakness to investor caution ahead of Nvidia's earnings report and global central bank meetings. While a minor technical rebound is possible, the broader downward correction trend remains intact, with the index expected to test the monthly support level at 44,144.
Technical Outlook: With the index falling below both the 5-day moving average and the quarterly line, the technical outlook has weakened significantly. A further decline today would confirm a short-term bearish trend, shifting focus to the support level established at the August 19th low of 44,308.
Institutional Activity: Institutional investors were net sellers, offloading 17.01 billion TWD in shares, with foreign investors ending a two-day buying streak. While domestic investment trusts continued to accumulate shares, state-backed funds intervened to provide support, purchasing 6.29 billion TWD worth of stock.
