Taiwan's benchmark index surged 538 points as institutional investors poured $1.45 billion into the market, though probe card maker Yingwei bucked the trend by hitting the daily limit down.
What Happened
Market Rally: The Taiwan Stock Exchange saw a robust session on the 21st, with the index climbing 538.09 points to close at 47,718.84, just shy of its all-time closing high. Institutional investors were net buyers of 47.037 billion TWD, fueling a broad-based rally led by AI and semiconductor heavyweights.
Heavyweight Performance: Delta Electronics and MediaTek were the primary drivers of the index, with MediaTek surpassing the 5,000 TWD milestone to reach a new record high. These major stocks, alongside others, contributed nearly 480 points to the day's gains, underscoring the dominance of large-cap equities.
Panel Sector Surge: AUO shares hit the daily limit up following reports of potential collaborations with TSMC and Intel in panel-level packaging. This positive sentiment spilled over into the broader panel sector, with Innolux and HannStar also posting significant gains.
Divergent Stock Movements: Despite the bullish sentiment, some stocks faced sharp declines, most notably probe card manufacturer Yingwei, which hit the limit down and has now lost nearly half its value from its historical peak. Meanwhile, the memory sector remained weak, and Shang Cheng experienced extreme volatility on its first day of trading following a capital reduction.
