Morgan Stanley issued a report highlighting a divergence in the tech sector, favoring server-related stocks while remaining cautious on consumer PC manufacturers.
What Happened
Market Divergence: Morgan Stanley's latest report highlights a growing divide between the PC and server supply chains. While the consumer PC market faces significant headwinds and recessionary pressure, the server CPU and ABF substrate sectors are benefiting from strong demand.
Investment Ratings: The firm assigned 'Overweight' ratings to eight stocks, including JPC, Wiwynn, Unimicron, Nanya PCB, Gold Circuit Electronics, Elite Material, Taiwan Union Technology, and Kinus. Conversely, Acer, Asus, Compal, and Catcher were downgraded to 'Underweight' due to weak consumer demand.
PC Industry Outlook: AMD projects a double-digit decline in global PC shipments by 2027, aligning with Morgan Stanley's forecast of a 14% drop in shipments this year. The market remains dominated by major players like Lenovo, HP, and Dell, leaving little room for smaller or low-end focused vendors.
Server Growth Drivers: Despite the slump in PCs, AMD expects the total addressable market for CPUs to reach $220 billion by 2030. As cloud service providers begin deploying new server hardware, suppliers of advanced packaging and substrates are expected to see sustained growth.
