As container shipping stocks face profit-taking, capital has shifted to the dry bulk sector, with U-Ming Marine surging to a five-year high on strong volume.
What Happened
Capital Rotation: Investors are rotating capital out of container shipping stocks and into the dry bulk sector following recent profit-taking. U-Ming Marine (2606) saw a significant surge in trading volume, with its share price climbing over 8% to reach a five-year high of NT$79.5.
Institutional Buying: Foreign investors have shown strong confidence in U-Ming, marking seven consecutive days of net buying. The company reported a robust first half, with net profit reaching NT$2.963 billion, a 238.3% year-over-year increase, resulting in an EPS of NT$3.51.
Market Indicators: The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) has remained elevated throughout the second quarter, averaging 2,751 points, which is an 88% increase compared to the same period last year. This strength is driven by steady demand for iron ore, grain, and bauxite, coupled with constrained vessel supply growth.
Future Outlook: U-Ming remains optimistic about the third quarter, citing the peak export season for Brazilian iron ore and increased production from the Simandou project. Additionally, the company expects steady growth in bauxite and grain shipping volumes, which are projected to support long-term demand for dry bulk carriers.
