Hiwin Mikrosystem reports a massive spike in demand for its silicon photonics inspection platforms, with order visibility extending into Q2 2027. The company is ramping up production capacity to meet the backlog and has introduced new nano-precision control solutions to capture high-end semiconductor market share.

What Happened

Surging Demand for Silicon Photonics: Driven by the rapid expansion of the semiconductor and silicon photonics (CPO) sectors, Hiwin Mikrosystem has seen a significant surge in shipments for its inspection and positioning platforms. Strong demand from end-customers has pushed order visibility through the second quarter of 2027, with shipment volumes scaling from single digits to hundreds of units.

Capacity Expansion Strategy: To address supply constraints and lead times currently stretching up to four months, Hiwin has initiated a two-phase expansion project totaling approximately NT$150 million. The first phase, completed in June, boosted capacity by 20%, while the second phase is scheduled for completion by early next year to further optimize production lines.

Technological Advancements: At the SEMICON exhibition, the company unveiled a new integrated control solution featuring ±1nm servo stability, designed to meet the rigorous demands of wafer-level inspection. Additionally, Hiwin introduced multi-dimensional precision alignment modules to solve alignment challenges in optical coupling processes, ensuring high system reliability.

Financial Outlook: With an increasing mix of high-value products and improved internal manufacturing efficiencies, Hiwin Mikrosystem is seeing a positive impact on its gross margins. Analysts expect the company's annual revenue to reach NT$4 billion this year, supported by the ongoing capacity ramp-up and strong market positioning.
