Taiwan's stock exchanges have placed four volatile stocks, including Century* and Vibo, under trading restrictions from August 24th to August 28th.
What Happened
Trading Restrictions: The Taiwan Stock Exchange and Taipei Exchange have announced that Vibo, Yang Cheng, Century*, and Merqury will be subject to trading curbs from August 24th through August 28th. These measures are being implemented due to recent excessive volatility in their share prices.
Regulatory Measures: During the five-day disciplinary period, the four stocks will be traded using a 2-minute call auction mechanism. This regulatory action is intended to temper speculative trading and protect investors from extreme price swings.
Market Performance: Century* has seen significant momentum, recording six consecutive limit-up sessions since its ex-rights date on August 14th, driven by interest in its drone and unmanned vessel technologies. Yang Cheng also hit a record high of 193 TWD this week, fueled by defense-related automation contracts.
Underlying Causes: The stocks were flagged for various reasons, including high P/E ratios, high turnover rates, and significant short-term price appreciation. Notably, Merqury saw a gain of over 200% within 90 trading days, highlighting the intense concentration of capital in specific thematic sectors.
