Finance · Financial Conglomerates · yonhap_finance · 2026-09-01

The South Korean government is launching a new child savings fund and expanding financial support programs, including interest-free loans for youth.

What Happened

Child Independence Fund: The government will introduce the 'Child Independence Fund' in the second half of next year to help children build capital by adulthood. The state will provide up to 1.2 million won annually until age 18, which can be combined with parental contributions to foster long-term asset growth.

Youth Financial Support: A new 'Youth Opportunity Fund' will offer interest-free loans of up to 20 million won for unemployed youth, with low-interest repayment options after employment. The program aims to support approximately 80,000 individuals annually with a budget of 102.7 billion won.

Savings and Asset Building: Budgets for military service savings and youth future savings have been significantly increased. A new preferential track for youth employed at small and medium-sized enterprises in local regions will provide a 25% match on their contributions to encourage regional retention.

Investment Incentives: The government plans to offer tax exemptions and income deductions for youth investing in domestic stocks and funds through ISA accounts. Additionally, the priority allocation for ordinary citizens in the National Participation Growth Fund will be raised from 20% to 50%.
