SKC is injecting 281 billion KRW into its subsidiary Absolics to fast-track the commercialization of next-generation glass substrates for semiconductors.
What Happened
Capital Injection: SKC has decided to invest 281 billion KRW into its semiconductor glass substrate subsidiary, Absolics, through a capital increase. This move marks the first phase of deploying the 1.167 trillion KRW raised earlier this year to bolster its next-generation packaging business.
Business Strategy: Absolics is currently pursuing a two-track strategy, developing both embedded and non-embedded glass substrate products. The embedded products have successfully passed initial sample evaluations and are currently undergoing reliability testing, while non-embedded products aim to enter the proof-of-concept stage this year.
Market Leadership: By accelerating the production readiness of these substrates, SKC aims to secure a dominant position in the next-generation semiconductor packaging market. The company plans to continue phased funding based on the progress of its commercialization milestones.
Industry Outlook: Glass substrates are increasingly viewed as a critical component for high-performance computing, offering superior efficiency over traditional materials. Through this strategic investment, SKC intends to strengthen its technical leadership and deepen collaborations with global partners.
