Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix ended the trading session in positive territory, buoyed by a rebound in U.S. chip stocks ahead of Nvidia's earnings.
What Happened
Market Performance: On the 26th, Samsung Electronics closed at 261,500 KRW, up 1.75%, while SK Hynix finished at 168,800 KRW, a 0.60% increase. Both stocks experienced intraday volatility but managed to maintain gains as buying sentiment spread across the semiconductor sector.
Drivers of Growth: The rally was fueled by a positive lead from Wall Street, where major semiconductor firms like Nvidia and AMD rebounded on bargain hunting, pushing the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index up by 1.44%. However, gains remained capped as investors exercised caution ahead of Nvidia's highly anticipated earnings report scheduled for the 27th.
Trading Activity: Institutional investors net bought 764.9 billion KRW, providing support to the KOSPI, while retail and foreign investors net sold 2.24 trillion KRW and 105.2 billion KRW, respectively. Within the electrical and electronics sector, foreign and institutional investors remained net buyers, contrasting with heavy selling from retail investors.
Stock Specifics: Foreign investors favored Samsung Electronics, making it their top net-buy stock with 671.3 billion KRW, while they net sold 382.1 billion KRW of SK Hynix. SK Hynix continues to see significant buying activity from other corporate entities, largely driven by the company's recent share repurchase and cancellation program.
