Korea Investment Holdings is restructuring its asset management subsidiaries by transferring specific fund businesses to enhance operational efficiency.

What Happened

Business Restructuring: Korea Investment Holdings has announced that its subsidiary, Korea Investment Management, will spin off its securities fund and MMF business units to merge them into Korea Investment Value Asset Management. The boards of both companies have approved the split-merger, which is scheduled to take effect on January 1 next year.

Shareholder Meetings: Both asset management firms are set to hold extraordinary general meetings on the 11th of next month to finalize the approval of the merger. The parent company, Korea Investment Holdings, confirmed that the ownership structure remains unchanged, as both entities will continue to be wholly-owned subsidiaries of Korea Investment & Securities.

Strategic Specialization: The reorganization aims to clarify the roles of each firm, with Korea Investment Management focusing on passive ETFs while Korea Investment Value Asset Management shifts its focus toward active ETFs. This move is expected to streamline operations and allow each entity to specialize in its respective investment style.

Market Outlook: Industry analysts view this integration as a strategic effort to boost competitiveness by clearly defining the operational focus of each subsidiary. By optimizing resource allocation, the group intends to strengthen its overall asset management capabilities in the domestic market.
