Finance · Investment Banks/Brokers · yonhap_finance · 2026-08-25

KAMCO and Standard Chartered Bank Singapore have teamed up to launch a 286 billion won shipping fund to support the financing needs of Korean shipping firms.

What Happened

Strategic Shipping Finance Partnership: KAMCO and Standard Chartered Bank's Singapore branch have signed a memorandum of understanding to bolster the competitiveness of the domestic shipping industry. The partnership focuses on co-creating shipping funds and exploring efficient ways to secure foreign currency financing.

Large-Scale Fund Launch: The centerpiece of this collaboration is the creation of a 286 billion won shipping fund specifically designed to support mid-sized shipping companies based in Busan. This initiative aims to provide critical financial relief to firms facing challenges in securing long-term capital.

Leveraging Global Expertise: By combining KAMCO’s extensive experience in shipping fund management with Standard Chartered’s global financial network, the partnership seeks to optimize capital procurement. The institutions plan to utilize various financial instruments, including foreign currency bonds and currency swaps, to improve the financial health of shipping companies.

Supporting Industry Growth: Since 2015, KAMCO has successfully managed shipping funds to support the acquisition of over 140 vessels for Korean firms. This new collaboration is expected to encourage further participation from global financial institutions in the Korean shipping finance market.
