What Happened

Strong Issuance Growth: According to the Taipei Exchange, 32 sustainable bonds have been issued as of October 6, totaling NT$94 billion. This figure encompasses green bonds, sustainability bonds, and social responsibility bonds, reflecting robust market participation in sustainable finance.

Dominance of Green Bonds: Green bonds lead the market with 23 issuances totaling NT$711 billion. Major issuers include TSMC, Taiwan Power Company, various commercial banks, and local governments, with funds primarily directed toward environmental and energy transition projects.

Diverse Bond Offerings: Sustainability bonds and social responsibility bonds have raised NT$132 billion and NT$97 billion, respectively. These funds are being utilized for a variety of social welfare, sustainable development, and infrastructure projects, highlighting the diverse ESG strategies of both corporate and government entities.

Future Pipeline: Five additional institutions have already received qualification for sustainable bond issuance and are expected to list their bonds in the near future. As sustainable finance continues to gain traction, these instruments have become a vital channel for raising ESG capital in Taiwan's market.
