The Taiwan Futures Exchange has doubled margin requirements for Jinju futures starting September 21, following the stock's designation as a restricted security.
What Happened
Margin Hike: The Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) announced an increase in margin requirements for Jinju futures (PQF) to double the current applicable tier, effective after the close of the regular trading session on September 21. This measure is intended to align with regulatory risk management protocols.
Regulatory Context: The adjustment follows the Taipei Exchange's decision on September 17 to designate Jinju as a restricted security for the second time within a 30-day period. The restriction is scheduled to last from September 18 through September 24.
Reversion Plan: TAIFEX confirmed that the elevated margin requirements will remain in place until the end of the restricted period. The margin levels are set to revert to their original standards following the close of the regular trading session on September 24.
Contingency Rules: In the event of market closures, trading halts, or full-day suspensions during the designated period, the scheduled date for reverting to normal margin levels will be postponed accordingly to maintain consistency with the underlying securities market.
