The Taiwan Futures Exchange has launched a new risk monitoring feature for proprietary accounts in OTC derivatives clearing, aiming to boost liquidity management.
What Happened
System Upgrade: The Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) officially launched a risk monitoring and early warning function for proprietary accounts in OTC derivatives clearing on November 2, 2026. This expansion integrates pre-trade margin estimation with post-trade dynamic monitoring to provide a comprehensive risk management framework for clearing members.
Risk Indicators: The new system features three key monitoring metrics: total collateral maintenance ratio, excess capacity for interest and exchange rate fluctuations, and large-loss monitoring. Automated alerts are triggered when these indicators reach warning thresholds, allowing members to proactively manage capital and collateral.
Global Alignment: This initiative aligns with international regulatory standards set by CPMI and IOSCO, which encourage clearinghouses to improve margin transparency. Since the inception of OTC clearing services in 2022, TAIFEX has consistently upgraded its digital tools to assist market participants in navigating complex margin requirements.
Market Resilience: With the inclusion of proprietary accounts, TAIFEX now provides end-to-end risk monitoring for all clearing participants. The exchange remains committed to refining its mechanisms to enhance the overall stability and competitiveness of Taiwan's financial markets.
