While major semiconductor stocks in Taiwan faced pressure from a broader market decline, equipment supplier Honteng surged to its daily price limit on strong AI demand.

What Happened

Market Context: Taiwan's technology sector faced significant selling pressure on the 25th, following a decline in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Major heavyweights like TSMC and MediaTek saw their share prices drop, contributing to a sharp decline in the weighted index during morning trading.

Stock Performance: Despite the bearish sentiment, semiconductor equipment manufacturer Honteng defied the trend by hitting its daily limit of 1,830 TWD. The stock has seen strong momentum recently, bolstered by interest in AI and advanced packaging equipment, as well as increased liquidity following its inclusion in margin trading on August 14.

Operational Growth: Honteng reported a strong performance for the first seven months of the year, with revenue reaching 1.6 billion TWD, a 65% year-over-year increase. Driven by demand for Nvidia's Rubin platform and CoWoS back-end processes, the company's order visibility now extends well into next year.

Capacity Expansion: To address supply chain constraints and rising order volumes, Honteng has leased additional factory space to double its assembly capacity. This expansion is expected to come online this month, helping the company alleviate production bottlenecks and support future delivery schedules.
