Fubon Investment warns of potential margin calls as the Taiwan stock market faces volatility, projecting a Q4 range between 40,000 and 50,000 points.
What Happened
Market Volatility and Support: Following a drop below the 42,000-point mark, Fubon Investment's General Manager Chen Yung-chun expects the market to consolidate between 40,000 and 50,000 points in Q4. While a rebound to 50,000 by year-end would be a strong performance, the 40,000 level is expected to provide a floor.
Margin Call Risks: Despite a 17% correction from recent highs, the reduction in margin balances has been insufficient, with an estimated 50-60 billion TWD still needing to be cleared. The T+2 settlement system could trigger further forced liquidations, hindering short-term recovery.
Solid Fundamentals: Despite market pessimism, Taiwan's fundamental outlook remains robust, with clear production schedules for AI-related chips and expected growth in corporate earnings. The current P/E ratio of 15x is below the long-term average, suggesting attractive long-term valuation.
Investment Strategy: Analysts advise against excessive pessimism and suggest a strategy of accumulating positions on dips. Given the historical seasonal strength from November to February, the outlook for the first quarter of next year remains cautiously optimistic.
