Institutional Activity: The Taiwan stock market faced significant selling pressure today as all three major institutional investor groups turned net sellers, offloading a combined NT$26.75 billion. Foreign investors, in particular, reversed their three-day buying trend by selling NT$14.39 billion worth of shares.
ETF and Stock Focus: Foreign selling was heavily concentrated in ETFs, with the top three sell orders consisting of various index-linked products. Conversely, foreign investors showed interest in specific semiconductor and financial stocks, with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing (PSMC) leading the buying list at 73,710 shares.
Market Dynamics: Analysts noted that the market was primarily dragged down by weakness in U.S. markets and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Despite the early morning sell-off, the index managed to trim losses toward the close, partially supported by MSCI quarterly rebalancing flows and opportunistic buying.
Future Outlook: Market experts suggest that the index faces significant resistance at the 46,500-point level. With the Federal Reserve's hawkish stance increasing the probability of a September rate hike, the market is expected to remain in a volatile, range-bound consolidation phase in the near term.
