CTBC Investments to Launch First Local Private Equity Fund in Kaohsiung Asset Management Zone

Finance · Investment Managers · economic_daily · 2026-09-21

CTBC Investments plans to debut a Japan-focused hotel private equity fund in the Kaohsiung Asset Management Zone by year-end, marking a shift toward local product development.

What Happened

Industry Milestone: CTBC Investments' private equity arm is set to launch the first locally developed private equity fund within the Kaohsiung Asset Management Zone, focusing on the Japanese hospitality market. This development signifies a strategic shift for Taiwan's asset management industry from merely distributing foreign products to creating proprietary investment vehicles.

Zone Progress: Since the Financial Supervisory Commission launched the local asset management zone initiative in April 2025, nearly 60 financial institutions have established a presence, serving over 6,000 high-net-worth clients. While the zone has previously hosted over 10 foreign-managed private funds, this marks the first time a domestic firm has taken the lead in product creation.

Product Structure: The fund will utilize a standard limited partnership structure with CTBC acting as the general partner, denominated in Japanese Yen. Unlike the semi-liquid products currently available in the zone, this will be a traditional closed-end fund, offering investors a distinct alternative asset class for their portfolios.

Future Outlook: As the Kaohsiung Asset Management Zone celebrates its first anniversary, the diversification of private products is expected to attract more domestic and international capital. Industry experts anticipate that the growth of private equity will eventually align with national policy goals, including ESG initiatives and infrastructure development, to strengthen Taiwan's financial market.
