The Biotech Strategy Advisory Committee (BTC) has concluded, with Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council announcing a new national initiative to integrate AI and semiconductor strengths into the biotech and agricultural sectors.

Strategic Consensus: The Biotech Strategy Advisory Committee (BTC) concluded its latest session with a unified vision to upgrade Taiwan's biomedical and smart agriculture sectors. NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-wen announced the launch of a national smart biotech team, aiming to leverage Taiwan's strengths in AI and semiconductors to build a comprehensive 'Big Health' industry.
Technological Innovation: The initiative focuses on Bio-AI driven innovations, including organ-on-a-chip technology and advanced drug development. Furthermore, the government plans to integrate genomic data and health records to enhance disease risk prediction and early screening, while expanding AI applications in agriculture.
Regulatory Framework: To facilitate market entry for emerging medical technologies, the government will establish 'Health Data Special Zones' and 'Innovation Sandboxes.' These environments will allow for secure data utilization and research, supported by new platforms for real-world evidence and temporary payment systems.
Sustainable Growth: The government will provide tax incentives under the Biotech and Pharmaceutical Industry Development Act and increase National Development Fund investments for clinical trials. By prioritizing domestic AI medical products for public procurement, the government aims to build a robust local market as a springboard for international expansion.
