The Ministry of Environment has launched an LED lighting replacement campaign in collaboration with 12 major retailers, including momo and PChome, to promote energy efficiency and waste reduction.
What Happened
Campaign Launch and Partnerships: The Ministry of Environment's Resource Circulation Administration is launching the "Lighting Up for a Sustainable Life" campaign from September 9 to October 31. This year's initiative expands to 12 partners, including major e-commerce platforms like momo, PChome, and ETMall, alongside physical retailers like B&Q and Zhenyu Hardware.
Energy Savings and Environmental Impact: Replacing traditional bulbs with LED alternatives can save approximately NT$100 in electricity costs and reduce carbon emissions by 10kg per bulb annually. For an average household, replacing 20 bulbs results in annual savings of NT$2,000 and a 75% reduction in lighting waste generation.
Resource Recycling Initiatives: Taiwan has achieved a lighting recycling rate of over 90% since 2002, with a target of 95% for this year. Officials emphasize the importance of proper disposal of old lamps to ensure that materials like glass, iron, and aluminum can be effectively recovered and recycled.
Industry Shift and Consumer Incentives: The Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association is urging consumers to transition to LED technology as traditional fluorescent tubes are phased out. Participating brands are offering various discounts and rewards during the campaign period to encourage households to upgrade their lighting systems.
