Taiwan Business Bank posted a 15.37% increase in H1 net profit, driven by wider spreads and strong foreign currency lending, with management signaling a shift toward higher cash dividends.

What Happened

Strong Financial Performance: Taiwan Business Bank (TBB) reported a consolidated net profit of NT$7.41 billion for the first half of the year, a 15.37% year-on-year increase, with an EPS of NT$0.71. The growth was primarily driven by core lending operations and a 12bps expansion in the net interest margin to 1.27%.

Business Expansion: Foreign currency lending surged by 21.90%, supported by international syndicated loan demand and corporate overseas financing needs. The bank’s wealth management division also saw significant growth in fund fee income, and the recent approval for high-net-worth financial services is expected to serve as a key future profit driver.

Solid Asset Quality: TBB maintains a robust risk profile, with a non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of just 0.18% and a loan loss coverage ratio of 714.31% in the second quarter. With a capital adequacy ratio of 13.52%, the bank remains well-capitalized and currently has no plans for capital raising.

Dividend Policy Shift: Management acknowledged shareholder demand for cash dividends, stating that the bank is evaluating a shift in its dividend policy. While historically focused on stock dividends to bolster capital, the bank aims to increase the cash component while maintaining capital efficiency to ensure earnings growth outpaces capital expansion.
