Revenue Performance: UMC reported August consolidated revenue of NT$25.05 billion, reflecting a 5.03% monthly increase and a 30.71% year-on-year jump. This result marks the company's sixth consecutive month of growth and its highest monthly revenue in nearly four years.
Operational Highlights: Cumulative revenue for the first eight months reached NT$178.66 billion, a 14.66% increase compared to the same period last year. Capacity utilization rose to 85% in the second quarter, with expectations to exceed 90% in the third quarter.
Market Drivers: Demand for power management chips, sensors, and microcontrollers remains robust, supporting steady growth in wafer shipments. Revenue from 22/28nm processes continues to hit record highs, underscoring the success of the company's advanced process strategy.
Strategic Outlook: Capitalizing on AI and silicon photonics opportunities, UMC has raised its 2024 capital expenditure to $2 billion. The company projects AI-related revenue to reach $300 million this year, with a target to exceed $1 billion within the next three years.
