Taiwan stocks retreated as TSMC shares fell, closing below the 45,000-point mark despite intraday buying support and a three-day trend of lower shadows.
What Happened
Market Performance: The Taiwan stock market closed down 291.69 points at 44,920.14, with a trading volume of NT$758.8 billion. TSMC shares weighed on the index, falling 40 points to close at 2,330, a decline of 1.69%.
Intraday Dynamics: The index hit a low of 44,399.1 before recovering slightly on bargain hunting, though late-session profit-taking pushed the market back into negative territory. Despite the losses, the index has left lower shadows for three consecutive days, suggesting underlying support remains present.
Stock Highlights: MediaTek and Hon Hai were key contributors, jointly adding nearly 50 points to the index. While MediaTek, Delta Electronics, Nan Ya Plastics, and Unimicron saw strong trading activity, Global Unichip experienced downward pressure.
Economic Outlook: Analysts at Capital Investment Trust note that strong AI demand and record-high export orders in September support a positive economic outlook, with growth projected to exceed 12% this year. However, global political uncertainty ahead of the U.S. midterm elections is causing volatility, prompting a cautious stance for investors.
