Taiwan stocks faced a massive sell-off as foreign investors offloaded over NT$100 billion, dragging TSMC and other major tech stocks lower.

What Happened

Massive Institutional Sell-off: Institutional investors offloaded a combined NT$146.46 billion in Taiwan stocks, with foreign investors accounting for NT$107.31 billion of the selling. This significant withdrawal highlights the impact of global market volatility on local equity flows.

Heavyweight Drag: TSMC fell below the NT$2,300 mark, closing at NT$2,295. Together with MediaTek and ASE Technology, the top five weighted stocks contributed to a decline of over 570 points in the index, as selling pressure spread to smaller-cap stocks.

Market Breadth Weakness: With 1,878 stocks declining against only 125 gainers, market sentiment has deteriorated sharply. The number of high-priced stocks (those over NT$1,000) has shrunk to 43, indicating a broad-based exit from high-valuation assets.

Niche Resilience: Amidst the broad sell-off, the cybersecurity sector showed relative strength. Additionally, Lanxin Information stood out as a rare gainer, hitting its daily limit-up driven by expansion plans and AI-related demand, highlighting that some niche stocks remain resilient despite the market downturn.
