Chroma ATE has introduced its new Chroma 17060 charge/discharge testing system to address the rising power requirements of AI server racks, offering a modular design that reduces costs and improves scalability for data center testing.
What Happened
Surging Power Demands in AI Data Centers: As AI data centers transition to next-generation GPU server racks, the number of GPUs per rack has surged from 72 to 576, driving total power consumption to approximately 870kW. Chroma ATE emphasizes that this rapid escalation requires testing equipment with significantly higher power flexibility and precision to validate power racks and battery backup units effectively.
Challenges with Legacy Testing Equipment: Traditional charge/discharge testing systems often feature fixed power specifications, forcing customers to purchase entirely new systems when upgrading their server racks. This limitation not only extends validation timelines but also increases long-term capital expenditure, while fixed-channel configurations and high energy consumption during testing create operational inefficiencies.
Chroma's Modular Innovation: To overcome these bottlenecks, Chroma has launched the Chroma 17060 testing system, which utilizes the 696xx series modular DC bidirectional power stage architecture. This design allows for flexible channel expansion and cost-efficient scaling, enabling customers to configure up to a 1.2MW full-scale setup to meet evolving power requirements.
Positive Long-term Outlook: Analysts remain optimistic about Chroma's growth trajectory through 2027, citing the company's strategic positioning in the AI infrastructure supply chain. By providing a scalable solution that lowers the barrier to entry for high-power testing, Chroma is well-positioned to benefit from the sustained expansion of AI data center investments.
